First full day of Fall.......

...this year is going FAR TOO FAST!!!

The trees are beginning to turn color, frost has killed off most flowers and the fog is thick in the mornings.

I have been busily canning. Tomatoes, peaches, pears, salsa, jam, mincemeat, relish and more!

I desperately need ideas for Halloween! Last year the family was EPIC! I heard over and over again from people in town about the Cat in the Hat and Thing1 and Thing2!! They were MY CREATIONS :)This photo even made the Erica Ehm Yummy Mommy site!

HELP!! I need ideas on what to do to stay within the same realm!! Last year I knew, this year I have nothing....

Took the "little puppy" in for a vet check yesterday. Since I posted when we got him, I will give you the update...he is now 5 months old and 52lbs! He has changed, but he has stayed the same in all of the best ways.

Mr Bentley is learning that the house can be an ok place and some manners. He thinks anything furry and small is a personal toy so the guinea pigs moved upstairs to Izzy's room for their personal safety!

Finally, a small stocking took place on Etsy today. Look for small scrappy diapers today! This Turtle Friends one is stunning!

Find this and more at http://www.etsy.com/shop/BBButtsDiapers

The next stocking later this week will have Halloween diapers for all the little goblins.

Now I need to get back to canning and get the first of the Halloween diapers completed!

Happy Fall people!

Getting back into the studio

It has been some time since I have blogged and our Facebook page has even been unusually quiet the past couple of weeks. Simply put, I hit my limit and was to a point defeated (and I apologize).

Back to school brought relief, new ambitions and promises but also a very busy schedule as well.  Most of you know I worked my butt off on a new project for my daughters hot lunch program and it rolled out just this past week with great success.

I was not quite prepared for all of the activity and time I needed to settle my daughter in, get my little man settled into a new routine, the final tasks of a program upstart, maintaining a home (that threw more than a couple of big curve balls at me), getting our garden harvest preserved (did you know a zucchini can double in size overnight?), a personal family situation that was beyond emotionally devastating and on and on it goes all without my husband who was away at rehab for his injury the past 2 1/2 months.

My little man is "busy" to say the least. He is a mostly typical 4 1/2 year old boy but he is also is 100% gogogo...literally I go to the bathroom and fear what I will return to. Today it was a chocolate cake mix he had in a bowl had added water and cracked an egg into. The water actually looked close to the 1c called for and with 2 more eggs added by me, he stirred it up and we baked it for his sister. He is so proud. He is so smart, too smart, and this makes him "busy". By time he fell asleep by 9ish, I too, was DONE! I simply have not had enough hours in the day to get to the studio and I feel horrible but it was what gave.

HOWEVER, my husband came home from rehab today!!!! He goes back to work a few hours a day for the next week then gradually adds in an hour or so. He has not worked for 15 months as of Thursday on his return.

What does this mean, and why am I bothering to post it? Well it means that I will no longer have to deal with a flood over two stories and a crawlspace from the toilet line breaking alone, or do the yard work, or all of the baths, or stay up to holler at kids to get into bed for 2 hours, or, or, or...you get the drift. I will have HELP! I may get to have a shower of more than 45 seconds and without mortal fear.

I WILL BE ABLE TO GET INTO THE STUDIO!!!!!

First up I have a few scrappy diapers that a few of you wanted. I will be getting to those as a first order of business this weekend (need a day or so to reunite as a family). I need to stock items...I tried a couple of times..but when I loaded my editing program on the new computer the updates changed the way I did things and I could no longer save them in a file type that Etsy would allow as an upload. I need to dig the old computer out and do some editing and should have some scrappy diapers up on Etsy within a week for you. Next sewing goal is some Halloween items. Some of these will be done as semi customs so watch the wall for posts and options along with pricing.

I just wanted to thank those that had stuck with the page. THANK YOU!!! I see the count has dropped dramatically but it is the ones (you) who are there that counts! Do you want the daily motivational / child engagement posts to continue (get going again)? Let me know what you would like to see from the page as we get into a now groove!

As Summer comes to a close...

I am taking the kids camping for one final week.

I truly look forward to these times. There is no technology, no phones, cells, tv nor gaming devices. We stay in a rustic log cabin that is outfitted with reclaimed camper appliances (stove and mini fridge). I boil water to do dishes and by time I am done cleaning up one meal it is nearly time to begin the next lol.
I will take the kids fishing, we will go on nature hikes and generally just hang out. The best part....the view! I LOVE to pull a chair onto the tiny deck and sit knitting while watching the kids at play.
Once I return, there will be a "Scrappy" stocking on Etsy for Sept 5th. Look for gems like this beautiful rainbow AIO to be listed.

See you on the other side of the long weekend. Enjoy this final week of the summer season!

Canada Day Celebrations!!

It was not a coincidence that I said I would announce the referral contest winners today. It IS Canada Day after all and needs to be celebrated! Happy 145th Birthday to Canada. It is easy for me to remember as I was born in the Centennial year.

For the celebratory part how about we give out some BB Butts Bucks shall we?

A great big HUGE welcome to all of our new fans who arrived via our referral contest!!!  Thank you to all of the ladies who promoted it and sent their friends, family and fans our way. We sure do appreciate it.

They use BB Butts Bucks to buy additional new diapers to help their program expand.

Prizes not claimed in the allotted time will be donated to Cloth 4 a Cause.

Thank you ALL for participating and being part of the BB Butts community!

What goes on during "closed to customs"?

Around here A LOT!!!

It has been a crazy insane two weeks...one I am glad that are coming to a close, I could really use another two more!

We have been renovating our home...extensively over the past several months. First the main floor and kitchen then more recently the exterior.

This was the before. Pretty fugly huh? Like three boxes all stacked on aside the next and the "high tower" down on the end, well it is high! The deck was a nightmare and with over 300kids at Halloween it gave me chills each year.
This is the same view now as it stands. The house was so high I was aiming to "bring it down to earth". The darker color and stone work on the far end all help to do that. There still has to be shakes added to the gable but hey are on back order until the end of the week.  The garage door was moved over and the new deck will also go on this week. The landscaping will have to be changed up but I am waiting for the contractors to finish it all up. What was once there is trampled and had suffered over the past couple of years as I had not kept us due to having many surgeries.
The back of the house looks much better as well. The shakes in the gable really break up things and once we get our gazebo back up I will spend lots of time on the deck gazing at the river! Yes, the deck will be re stained..the green will be replaced with the same color that the house is, I found a perfect match!

Meet Bentley! On day one of construction we brought him home as an almost 7 week old pup.  Yes, I am insane, and yes I am feeling the effects of it. I swear I have "mommy brain" again and DESPERATELY want just one second to myself.

He is a real joy however, beautiful temperament and smart as a whip! He is a golden retriever Shepherd cross and he had never seen the interior of a house when we brought him home.

Also during all of this, I have been trying (with the help of a few amazing souls) to get a new food program in place at our school. It is one that served farm fresh local foods as a priority with a protein, whole grain, 4-6 veggies and 3-4 fruits salad bar style at each lunch.

It is a major undertaking that is wholly volunteer parent driven. We have had to get permission from the school district to do it and are solely responsible for finding the funding for it as well.

I have been doing presentations and having meetings with local farmers,  business, service groups, our local and provincial politicians and anyone else that we can form a partnership with. I will be working on helping one of our amazing volunteers who is doing our grant writing and tomorrow I will, at the Mayor's request, be making a presentation to the Town Council then run across the street to the school Board to see how we fit into their budget approval.

This is the lunch we served on Thursday for our Community Engagement Luncheon.

Squeezed in was a few custom orders and some catching up after my snap press parts went missing. Let's not forget that there is also the referral contest going on. Looks like I am going to be giving away LOTS of free items in July!

As you can see, there is so much more to life than my duties as a WAHM. I am also mom, wife, an avid volunteer, puppy trainer, CEO of the house and lately, a general contractor making sure all these projects are getting done, that my vision is happening, and it is staying on time and within budget. It has certainly has been a ride the past couple of weeks, but one that will pay off in dividends.

I sincerely thank a few of you who have been rolling around on this journey with me, from crazy texts that do not make sense, to delayed orders due to the press, and a general lack or organization...THANK YOU for your patience.

Contest Time!

Even though we are closed for custom orders right now due to a very busy home life, there is still FUN to be had!

I am noticing our fan count is slowly decreasing and would like to turn that around. I need your help to bring quality (by that I mean customers potentially interested in our product lines) new fans to join our page ... and would like to reward you in doing so!

Let's do a referral promo! This is one where you can earn LOTS of store credit potentially..it is really only limited by how many successful referrals you make!

For the remaining portion of the month of June, every NEW fan you bring to BB Butts Diapers Facebook page will earn you $1 BB Butt Buck. You invite the new friend ( we have an invite your friends app on the page to make it easy) and when they join they simply make a post on the page telling me who sent them. YOU need to make a comment to this post with your name (just once) so the contest is over here on the blog. Need to keep Facebook happy ;)

I will tally the BB Butt Bucks and award them on July 1st (pal must still be a fan of the page). Easy Peasy as my 7 year old says!! I am going to cap the award at $50 BB Butts Bucks/ person. If you get more than 50 people though, I will enter you into a random draw for $25 more BB Butts Bucks for a total of $75 BB Butts Bucks! How sweet is that??!!??

On July 1st all of the new fans will be entered via random.org to get  $25 BB Butts Bucks to get them started on their shopping!

Get those referrals happening and share a little BB Butts Love!

June?!?

OK, I bow down to all those religious bloggers. It take effort, I "get" it, I just do not get the time I guess? I never quite get into the groove! Here again it is 2 months since my last post. It kind of sounds like the beginning of confessional doesn't it...Forgive me Father as I have sinned...

Spring in these parts has been a bit of a long drawn out affair. We had snow as recently as about 10 days ago!! Finally my mayday and crab-apple are coming into bloom and there are the beginnings of flower buds on the lilacs. Most of the trees are getting leaves so finally there are splashes of color all about.

Business has been busy! We have had several hundred yards of fabric arrive in the past two months and the orders have been going out at a record rate. Thank you all for supporting us!

Finally all those kitchen rennos were completed...just int he past month actually.  I love the new kitchen and the built ins in the living room COMPLETELY changes the feel in here. Here is confession time though...I am insane. Really, I do think I am. After the kitchen project that ran 5 months over it's schedule, I have just organized another project. It is not a small one either.

On Tuesday contractors arrive to completely strip the exterior of the house, build a new front deck/entry and re~frame my garage and then completely reside the house exterior. It is not a small house, we have six bedrooms, and there are three separate "towers" as we call them....do not get excited they are not royal towers like a castle more like big boxes all shoved together ;) Fugly does not begin to explain it...the front of the house has ZERO character, so much (little?) so that no one even knows it is the front! I will take photos to document the change. They plan to be done in a week! The change will be epic...we currently describe the house as the "big white breadbox". A clue to the final...red....to be continued ;)

So with the next round of upheaval, I am going to close for customs for the next two weeks. My plate is full. I have some orders on the go (awaiting new snap press parts) and they will be completed during this time as soon as the parts arrive. In stock orders from the website will be filled and shipped but no custom requests for the next two weeks please.

The Vanderhoof Farmer's Market starts up on Thursday! I am not quite sure how that is going to look for me. This week for sure I will not be there because of the work being done here at the house. Beyond, that I am unsure. I really enjoy the social aspect of it but it is A LOT of work and takes me away from my family. It also draws lots of time away from the other aspects of the business. I am hoping I can find a happy medium, even if it is doing the market one week a month... My hubby has been off work for a year now in a couple of weeks with his injury. He did finally get surgery and is doing rehab for it. He may have to go away to a rehab center to continue the journey to having a fully functional arm and that is another unknown that affects my market decisions.

Just a bit of an update to you all of what is going on in the background here. I hope you understand. If any  of you have tutorials or ideas on how to clone your self or know of an organization fairy I would really appreciate it if you would share

I hope you are all enjoying fair weather and discovering new thinks with the kids...

Until next time (whenever that might be lol),

Michelle

April Fool's

Good morning! It is hard to believe it is April 1st!!!

I have to ask....Did you get or, were you got?

Life was peaceful around here for an April Fool's day. I was allowed to sleep in, started my morning with a bath (uninterrupted even, so a real treat) and a coffee. The sun is shining, the river has been flowing a few days and we have a flock of swans hanging out back. Spring has surely arrived!

Now I await for the rest of the snow to go and the ground to soften and release the months of ice it contains. I want to wrangle my gardens back into shape after a few years of neglect due to several surgeries. This will be a HUGE undertaking...but I am hopeful...and also a little afraid, as I know I will have to do it all alone.

D is having his surgery (finally) in just two weeks (shoulder)! We will have gone fully around the calendar soon with this injury of his and I am thankful we are going to be on the recovery tract soon. The waiting has been very difficult for him. He NEEDS to get back to work, I know I will need to scale back for a week or so post op to meet his needs but then the ground should be workable!

For BB Butts, I am nearing being caught up again. I have two gals interested in the temporary position I have for listing items and will be interviewing them this week. I am hopeful one of them will work out and all of our items will soon be available online. The job posting is on our Facebook page if any of you would like to take a look at it and contact me.

There will be a shipment go out on Tuesday. I am working on Anna and Mel's orders over the next couple of days then all customs are caught up. On that note, I am off and running to work on some bags! watch the facebook page for those, they are going to be real beauties!

Been BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!!

It has been a whirl wind couple of weeks around here!

We participated in the PGWAHM Tradeshow and had a wonderful time connecting with old and new customers alike!

We were fortunate enough to get a double booth and I really liked our set up and the ease and room that customers could enjoy!

The other benefit of a show such as this is learning about other WAHM businesses in the region. I enjoyed seeing the ladies I have met in previous years, meeting new ones and sharing new ideas and formulating plans for future networking.

That same weekend was so incredibly busy! My daughter was in her school production of Dear Edwina.

It was an ensemble cast of 60+ 6 to 12 year olds about a hilarious advice giving Judy Bloom type of character.

For months now, we have been listening to the CD, to Izzy's skill grow and going to practices up to six days a week. What an AMAZING result it was! I was floored at how professional this production turned out to be!

Much credit must go to our principal, Mrs Hart who managed, directed and taught this bunch of kids such amazing things that will carry with them throughout their lives.

The same weekend was also my little girl's birthday. She had been begging for a "pet of her very own" for months. It had wavered between a rabbit and guinea pig. The last month or so, she seemed to have given up completely switching to a violin as her desired gift. Deep down though, I knew in her heart she wanted to love a pet of her own.

While in the city my mom who came to help for the show and I checked out the pet shop. Low and behold we found this little creature.....An 8 week old little guinea pig.
We got all we needed to start her new home, as well as what was needed to survive the weekend without breaking into the "gifts".

This sweet little girl was taken to a hotel where we checked in and settled her best we could then ran off to set up for the trade show.

She spent the day at the show with us prior to travelling back to our hometown and was hidden at home until the next day for the birthday.

My daughter was overjoyed, so much so that she burst into tears of overwhelmed joy after holding "Twinkle" for a couple of minutes.

This is my baby. The day before she turned 7. Suddenly I see hints of what she will look like as a 16 year old. Oh my, where has the time gone?

Just as these past two weeks seem to have escaped me, so has the past years.

I am so proud of my Izzy girl. Happy Birthday sweetie. May the entire year bring you as much joy and growth as these past weeks have! <3

2500 Giveaway and Auction Event!

We made it! After what seemed to be a period of being stagnant, we have reached 2500 fans!!

I am celebrating by having an auction and giveaway event. I am very pleased that so far. The sponsors are not the "typical" set, there are some real gems in this group! There is still room for new participants (just contact me) and this event will be open for two weeks, closing on March 18th.

Please be sure to check it out and share share SHARE!! :)

On other fronts:

I am sick....like every.hair.on.my.head.HURTS sick .....almost man sick :( I am not at all a fan of this! I have no time to be plastered in my chair, taking some medication concoction, moaning and hacking with a stack of cloth wipes to take care of a nose in the nicest way possible...NO TIME!

What I SHOULD be doing is prepping for the PG WAHM Tradeshow! It is exactly one week away now! I have an order to complete for delivery there as well I had dreams of having THE MOST AMAZING inventory for it but between my back and being sick I am lagging behind my goals. I must say though, that what I am taking is pretty impressive all the same, just not quite OVER THE TOP if you know what I mean :)

It will come together though..I know it will..I just have to get better!

With the show in mind, please be aware that I will be turning the storefronts (both our main site and Hyenacart) off on Thursday. Friday is a travel/setup day, Saturday the show and Sunday another travel/unpack day. I hope to turn selected items back on beginning Monday.

Timeline:

Seems you either love or hate it. I am "liking" it LOL. I got new graphics (again) and took the plunge this morning. I do like some of the new features such as messaging and the fat that you can "pin" an item to the top so you do not have to continuously share an item. I do wish they would add back the "most recent" feature to run right below the pinned items..that would be AWESOME! What do you love or hate about it?

Blog posts:

I know I have to continue work of my fabricaholics series. I promise to do so after the tradeshow. I am getting to that overwhelmed stage and need to dial back a few things until I get past this next week.

Kids:

Our teachers are taking strike action this week so everybody is home. I am going to reserve my comments on the the entire situation (both sides). There are many teachers I love as individuals (some read this) and all I can say is that my feelings do not change for those individuals and I will leave it at that. Do teachers strike in your area? Are they considered an essential service?

Now I am off to nap a little...again......

Can a girl have too much fabric???

Hello. My name is Michelle and I am an addict. A fabric addict.

I spent all day yesterday attempting to make room for my most recent acquisitions. The fact that I had huge boxes of fabric falling over from their precarious perches dumping the contents all over MIGHT have had something to do with the motivation to undertake such a project. Or, it MIGHT have been my poor hubby grunting as he hauled 200 yds of cut diaper "guts" up into the house then down the two flights of stairs to the studio only to scream up "Just WHERE am I to put THIS!?!"

Yes, I have fabric....and admittedly LOTS of it. I buy in fits and spurs for the most part. Recently, there was much that needed to be stocked up on and some deals came my way that were just too good to pass up and then there were the adorable new releases, oh and let's not forget some Vera Bradley that was TDF, and the fact that one of my suppliers only mills some of the fabrics I use in "winter months" so I need to stock up enough to carry me to fall in those. Oh and my favorite fabric reps will soon be paying me visits and well, who wants to turn away a fabric rep right? Yes, if ye shall look for a reason...there is sure to be one to suit the occasion if it means more fluffy fabric headed one's way!

I think I found a home for close to 350 yds of new fabric. I am sure that I moved AT LEAST 500 yds to do so. It meant moving sections around from one set of shelves to a cabinet, from a cabinet to the old office up a floor, to put new stuff in the shelf...you get the idea...rob Peter to pay Paul type of thing :) Not all are nice small pieces either..some are heavy awkward 50 yd rolls of fluffy goodness!

Having just bopped around the lower two floors of the house taking pictures of "the stash" I have come to realize while downloading that I neglected many key parts of said stash...like the dresser stuffed full of print PUL or the totes of whatever is in them, and did not take pics of the girly nor gender neutral flannels. Bottom line, this is going to be a two (or three) part epic post to get it all done!

Let's begin the tour in the studio shall we? This is looking back towards the stairs that I just came down. This
is my "main storage". We built these adjustable shelves when we re did our basement post flood a few years back. At the time, I thought it would serve ALL my needs...silly me! I could easily fill 4 of these these days .

As you can see the ironing board serves multi functions..right now it is the sorting facility for wipes that need to be serged. I can grab them right from there as I sit a the desk and serge away.

Under the ironing board is 4 rolls of PUL, about 70 cones of thread and my daughter's sewing kit. She is beginning and learning. We try to have a "sewing lesson" once a week. She made a pillowcase a few weeks back and come to think of it, it should be washed while she has a sleep over at Grandma's tonight...she never gives the thing up!

Within those yellow totes are a
bunch of diapers that are stacked and ready to sew, some wet bags ready to serge and in the other one, random smaller cuts of various fabrics. Atop the tote is some LWI dyed bamboo

french terry that I did up a few weeks ago.

The lower shelves contain a bolt of the most gorgeous lime Cotton velour, and then a rainbow of PUL in the left and middle sections.

Blogger is frustrating me at the moment so I am going to go and sew for a bit and will return this evening to continue showing you the stash.

Hey, since you are here, bop down to the post below for a GIVEAWAY...just go PIN a BB Butts image and you can win a $20 GC. Enter as many times as you would like (separate comments so random.org can count them all).

Pinterest Challenge!

Oh I am on a roll! I have posted to the blog weekly...it is a record for me!! :)

Tonight while trasping around on the net I came up with a new goal and challenge that involves both you and I.

My goal is to get all of my in stock onto the main website at BB Butts Diapers. I have made progress by learning some formatting html and getting all of the new baby blankets listed. That means photos, editing, resizing for optimization...something for me that needs a good block of time and a clear head. For this reason I often put it off and that is the very reason the site lacks most of the time.

I am also going to stock my Hyena Cart again too! Brand new items will head there first then transfer over tot he main site.

I am offering a challenge with a prize to you to spurn me on. The challenge is for you to "pin" at least one item from the web site or Hyena Cart that you admire. Once you do this, comment here on this post and let me know what item you pinned and I am going to enter you in to a draw for a $20 GC.

The challenge will give me the motivation to continue to add new items and hopefully as I do you will come back and pin more items and for each pin you will receive an entry. I will post on Facebook each time I have added a new group so you are aware and can pop over here to add entries.

I will work on a product group at a time..for example all of the wipes wet bags or all of the boxers. As I work through each group I am redoing ALL of the image graphics so it takes some time.

So go and "pin it" and if you need an invitation to Pinterest, send me a message on the Facebook contact form and I will get you one.

Happy pinning!

New graphics have arrived!! I have been waiting for this exciting change to happen! I was able to work with a designer who ran with what we already had for branding and brightened things up and added images of our items.
She delivered exactly what I had hoped for and even did her own digging to find images of my stuff that she thought would work to add to the mix I had given her.

If you are wanting to freshen up your page, I would recommend heading to Hoot n' Tag on Facebook and getting a graphics package!!

Our new customers will also now land on our Welcome page. I LOVE it as it shows that BB Butts Diapers has grown to so much beyond diapers! Have a look at the images and please leave some feedback. Is this look aesthetically pleasing to the customer eye?

BB Butts Goals for 2012

New years should always be started with goals.

I am not so much a resolution gal (who wants to break it and fail right away? Hardly seems like a good way to start a year) but I am going to be goal orientated this year with BB Butts Diapers. I have a few in mind right off the top, both short term achievable and long term as well.

#1. Post to this blog at least MONTHLY! This is one very neglected part of the face of BB Butts.

#2 Increase my advertising presence. I have been researching some different avenues and recently made some advertising purchases. If you have any ideas I would love to hear them in your comments. A favourite blog that is huge, a networking group, something that has worked for you in the past. Heck, even something that bombed for you to save me some head banging on the proverbial wall.

#3 Make my Facebook page more interactive for my fans and have opportunities to give back to them in that way. I have started to post a daily "Mom Challenge". My goal is to have a new challenge for each day of this year. If you have an awesome idea, I would love it if you sent me the idea through the contact form on the page.

#4 Get the main website fully stocked. It too is an area that suffers greatly. With so much turnover, especially during market and trade show season it is difficult to find time to do it all. This is something that I need to set as a priority to at least get some items for each category on line.

#5 5000 Facebook fans in 2012. Please share our page. Share our giveaways. The more successful we are the more celebrations we can have!

So there are 5 neat and tidy GOALS.

Do you have goals for this year?
